The CA-980 preamplifier features a tube line stage and a tube power supply that will produce a more transparent and musical sound. It has four sets of inputs and two sets of main outputs for flexibility.
Inside the CA-980, you will notice the same craftsmanship as found in our other products such as point-to-point wiring and hand-soldering of parts. Only highest quality parts and components are used in critical applications. The extra thick military grade epoxy circuit boards are designed to minimize component interaction.
The power supply utilizing three selected vacuum tube (1 x 5Y3, 1 x 12BH7 and 1 x EF86) incorporated with a newly design circuit. The oversize power transformer is custom wound and a choke is also used. There is even a metal divider that run the depth of the unit to shield the power supply from the line stage.
The tube line stage utilizing two 12AX7 and one 12AU7 vacuum tubes. Circuit highlights include the use of a total of ten pieces Hovland MusiCaps®. A Swiss made ELMA rotary switch is used as a selector for input sources and two hand built ELMA 24 stepped attenuators are used for precise volume adjustment. |
